A tiny, pebble-sized piece of moss tickled the side of the giant stone door. *Tick!* went the pebble. Then, *crack!* The pebble fell into a gap in the stone, and suddenly, the whole massive door swung open with a loud, happy *BOOM!*

Inside, the air smelled like rain and fresh cookies. It was the Jungle Temple of Smiles, a place where the statues weren't made of cold, gray stone, but of warm, glowing green magic. They were the Living Statues!

Benny, a boy with hair as curly as a coconut, squeezed through the doorway. He was wearing his favorite red boots that squeaked when he walked. Behind him came Mia, a girl with a scarf that changed color, which was currently a bright, sunny yellow.

"Wow, look at the statues!" Benny gasped, his eyes wide as he pointed.

The statues were huge, standing tall and still. One looked like a giant lion with a mane made of golden vines. Another looked like a tree with flowers for leaves. They didn't look scary; they looked peaceful, like they were waiting for a special dance to begin.

"They look like they're sleeping, Benny," Mia whispered. But then, she giggled. The statue next to her, the one with the flower leaves, suddenly blinked. Its eyes were two shiny green marbles.

"They're waking up!" Benny cheered. He started marching forward, his red boots squeaking loudly. *Squeak, squeak, squeak!*

As Benny got closer, the statues started to move. But they didn't walk. They danced! The lion statue did a slow, swaying dance. The tree statue did a spinning dance. The air around them shimmered like heat waves on a summer day.

"Oh no, look out!" Mia shouted, grabbing Benny's arm.

Suddenly, the dancing got a little tricky. The lion statue spun so fast it looked like a blurry orange blur. Then, the tree statue stretched its flower-leaves up high and down low, making a *swish, swish* sound. But then, the floor started to glow!

"The floor is glowing!" Benny yelled. He tried to step on a green patch, but his red boot landed on a yellow patch. *Bump!* He tripped and rolled onto his back.

"It's the Shadow Dance!" Mia laughed as she helped him up. Her yellow scarf turned into a cool blue.

The shadows under the statues began to dance too! A shadow lion did a flip. A shadow tree did a wiggle. They were having so much fun that the statues themselves began to float a little bit in the air. They were turning the jungle into a giant playground!

"This is the best adventure ever!" Benny stood up and did a little jump of his own. *Boing!*

"But where do we go next?" Mia asked, looking around. The temple seemed to stretch even bigger now. The ceiling looked like it went on forever, filled with floating lanterns made of jellyfish.

The two living statues in the center, the Lion and the Tree, stopped dancing and looked right at Benny and Mia. Their stone faces smiled even wider. A soft, warm voice seemed to come from the air itself, not from anyone's mouth.

"Do you want to play?" Benny asked the statues, bowing his head politely.

"We'd love to!" the voice echoed cheerfully.

Suddenly, two giant doors flew open at the very back of the temple. One door had a picture of a sparkling underwater cave on it. The other door had a picture of a mountain where clouds tasted like cotton candy.

"An underwater cave? And a cotton candy mountain?" Benny dropped his jaw.

"We have two adventures waiting for us!" Mia clapped her hands, and her blue scarf turned into a sparkling pink.

"First, let's find the secret key to the underwater cave!" Benny said, his eyes shining with excitement.

"Then we'll save the cotton candy mountain from the grumpy wind!" Mia added, zipping forward.

The shadow dancers cheered for them, doing a final, happy pirouette that sent sparkles flying everywhere. Benny and Mia ran toward the two giant doors, their red and blue boots squeaking in time with the happy music of the jungle temple.

"Ready, Mia? Let's go!"

"You bet, Benny!"

They ran through the glowing doors just as the temple lights dimmed, leaving them to explore the underwater cave and the fluffy, sweet mountain. There were so many more adventures waiting around every corner, and Benny and Mia couldn't wait to see what came next!
