Barnaby looked up at the night sky, but he didn't see stars. He saw a giant, glowing plate with a silver fork sticking out of it.

Barnaby blinked. His eyes rubbed themselves. He looked again. The sky was definitely wobbly. A soft, golden light was dripping from the moon, landing right in the center of his backyard. It made a funny *plop* sound, like a drop of honey hitting a warm spoon.

"Is that cheese?" Barnaby whispered, covering his mouth with his hands.

No, it wasn't cheese. It was a moonbeam! But not just any moonbeam. It was a wobbly, giggly beam that looked exactly like the best pancake batter Barnaby had ever seen.

Suddenly, a fluffy cloud floated down and landed with a *whoosh*. A small door popped open in the middle of the cloud.

"Hello, Barnaby! I am Chef Puff," the cloud said. His voice sounded like a squeaky rubber duck.

"Hi, Puff," Barnaby said, stepping closer. The golden light from the moon was tickling his toes. It felt warm and bouncy.

"I have a very important job for you," Puff said, patting his cloud belly. His hat wobbled.

"You're a cloud," Barnaby said.

"I am a Cloud Chef, and tonight, the Great Moonbeam Pancake needs its batter!" Puff said seriously. He pointed to the glowing puddle in the grass.

"It's glowing!" Barnaby said, stepping back.

"That's the magic of the Moonbeam Mix!" Puff explained. He took a little scoop of the glowing light and dropped it into a bowl. The bowl started to hum. *Hummmmmm.* It sounded like a happy bee.

"What do I do?" Barnaby asked, holding his breath.

"You must add the secret ingredient!" Puff said. He looked at Barnaby's tummy.

"The secret ingredient?" Barnaby asked.

"The ingredient of surprise!" Puff said. He handed Barnaby a giant wooden spoon.

Barnaby felt very brave. He walked up to the glowing puddle. The moonbeam smelled like cinnamon and warm cookies. Barnaby scooped up a big spoonful of the golden light and dropped it into the bowl.

*Whoosh!*

The bowl exploded with sparkles. Pink sparkles. Blue sparkles. Even some silly green sparkles that made a *pop* sound.

"Wow!" Barnaby laughed. The sparkles danced around his head.

"Perfect! Now, mix it with a little bit of laughter!" Puff said.

"Laughter?" Barnaby said. He looked at the glowing batter. It looked so fun that Barnaby had to laugh. He let out a big, tummy-trembling laugh. *Hahaha!*

The batter started to spin like a merry-go-round. It grew taller and taller, forming a giant, fluffy pancake that reached all the way to the moon.

"Yes! The Moonbeam Pancake is rising!" Puff cheered. The cloud chef bounced up and down, making *boing, boing* sounds.

"It's so high!" Barnaby said. He stretched his arms up.

Suddenly, the pancake started to slide! It was so slippery that it wiggled left and right. The green sparkles were making funny noises like *wiggle-waggle*.

"Oh no, Puff!" Barnaby cried. The pancake was rolling toward the fence.

"Don't worry, Barnaby! We need the flavor of friendship!" Puff said.

"Friendship?" Barnaby asked. He thought about his best friend, who lived next door.

"Exactly! You have to share your joy!" Puff said.

Barnaby smiled. He thought about playing tag, building forts, and sharing ice cream. His smile made the pancake stop sliding. It froze in mid-air, looking like a giant, fluffy pillow.

"It's stuck!" Barnaby said, jumping up and down.

"It's waiting for the final touch!" Puff said. He pointed to the sky.

Barnaby looked up. The moon was smiling back at him. It looked like it wanted a hug.

"I'll give it a hug!" Barnaby said. He ran forward and gave the moon a big, warm hug.

*Zoom!*

A ribbon of golden light shot down from the moon and wrapped around the pancake. The pancake grew bigger and bigger, turning into a giant, delicious, fluffy cloud-pancake that floated right in front of Barnaby's face.

"Yum! The Great Moonbeam Pancake is ready!" Puff said.

"But it's too big to eat!" Barnaby said. He looked at the giant pancake with wide eyes.

"Not too big!" Puff said with a wink. He reached into his cloud pocket and pulled out a giant pair of scissors made of starlight.

"Starlight scissors?" Barnaby asked.

"Watch and learn!" Puff said.

Puff snipped the pancake. *Snip, snip, snip!* The pancake didn't fall down. Instead, it turned into millions of tiny, fluffy pieces that floated around like cotton candy. They smelled like chocolate chip and vanilla.

"It looks like snow!" Barnaby said, catching a piece in his hand. It was warm and soft.

"It's Moonbeam Snow!" Puff said. He handed a spoonful to Barnaby.

Barnaby took a bite. *Munch!* His face lit up. It tasted like the best dream ever. Sweet and warm and full of happiness.

"This is amazing!" Barnaby said, his cheeks full.

"The Moonbeam Pancake is never finished!" Puff said, eating a piece of starlight snow.

"Can we make more?" Barnaby asked.

"Only if you bring me your laugh next time!" Puff said. He began to float up toward the moon.

"Bye, Puff! See you soon!" Barnaby waved.

As Puff floated away, the sky turned a soft, happy purple. The moon looked down at Barnaby and winked one big, glowing eye.

"Wait, Barnaby!" Puff's voice echoed from the sky.

"Yes, Puff?" Barnaby called out.

"The Moonbeam Pancake is calling for a new flavor!" Puff said.

"What flavor?" Barnaby asked, his eyes wide with wonder.

"The flavor of tomorrow!" Puff said.

Barnaby gasped. He looked at the sky. A tiny, wobbly moonbeam was starting to form right above his head, waiting for him to add the next secret ingredient.

"Tomorrow?" Barnaby asked.

"Yes! And we will have so much fun adding it!" Puff said.

Barnaby stood there, holding his warm spoon, looking up at the glowing sky. The impossible had just become possible, and the best part was that he had only just begun his adventure.
